I was looking at what kind of room i have for an oil cooler.Well i don't have much, between the electric fan and where my camera mount is.It's not doable so i found this roll coil of copper pipe i had lying around. So i'm gonna try and make a custom oil cooler.I'm gonna try and do a step by step presentation of it.(which is hard for me to do cuase once i get started i like work fast). So if this comes out ok i think it'll be a cheap but effective way to go.

Swheels just keep you camera on the bench next to you and photo as you go. The biggest thing with a cooler is the surface area that's why there are so many fins.

After thinking more about it.I pick up some smaller dia. copper tubing to run in between the larger dia copper tubing. So i can get more rows in between.Plus i'll have the cooler sitting directly in front of the cooling fan it should a little something.I'll be posting pics soon.

Ok i don't know what to make of it.LOL I left it longer on the bottom becuase i was think of making a second core. The second core would sit down close to the bottom of the lower fairing. She ain't purdy but i'll try ur out.cowboy
Still gotta little more work to do to finish it up.

LOLOLOLOL Now I know part of the Swheels secret. While I was looking at your very good work I noticed the drill press in the background. I also noticed the sliding vise and a few other details. The Mad Doctor has a small machine shop at his disposal cool_shades . I like the step you put in the tubing and the curve for more cooling surface. I have one concern that has nothing to do with the smokin cooler. The air flowing through the cooler flows straight at the carby doesn't it? Now you intake charge will be a lot warmer and it will rise as the race goes on. Will this decrease your power output thinking_smilie . Just a thought...put a guard between the cooler and the carby intake. Check out the photo of the Tard. The intake doesn't separate the intake charge from anything it just scoops it but the idea is to scoop cooler air.

Couldn`t you just bend the copper line into 's' shapes? like a factory 4-wheeler oil cooler looks? like make a wide 's' then make another below it etc. with the same line?

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z216/NuttyProfessorPS/tuonoevoluzione2002.jpg LOL I don't use that drill press as much cuase i'm to lazy to bolt it down so i moves to much.I love my hand tools and dremel and the only thing i make on the mill and the lathe is a big MESS.Been thinking about getting rid of them but i'm gonna try to make some billet rearsets that will be adjustable very easy to do.I just gotta get the aluminum to make them out of.........But on that note......My carb is facing backwards anyway so it's just suck in heat anyway.

Someday guys i'll be making rearsets just for our little bikes.I got to clean up and re-organize the shop.soap_box Note the handtools and the cordless drill gets the workout.LOL

I think i might try that if this one don't work like i want it to.[QUOTE]
You could use a brake line bender tool to make the bends so you don`t 'kink' the line.

Huuumm i'm starting to think instead of an oil cooler.Wrap some of the tubing around the cylinder in attemps to convert it to a watercoole system.?thinking_smilie

The only problem I see is the added weight. First the tubing. For weight that's nothing, but you need a reservior of water, a radiator, a water pump. and a fan. The weight of that far outweighs the cooler you've put together. The coils rubbing on the fins will probably wear through because of vibration dunno That being said you don't know if you don't try. cowboy

In between the fins on my motor has rubber spacers the resevior won't be a problem i got the fan the water pump could be the electric fuel pump i was going to use as an oil pump.Plus i got the fan and just use my haomeade oil cooler for the radiator.

Go little bro go. rock2 Of course Swheels is taller and heavier, but he is younger (Who isn't?). And looks to be a hell of a lot faster but will old age comes wisdom and knowing how to cheat without getting caught thumbsup2 Did I say that smokin_pimp

i took those spacers out of my fins when i got it
keep in mind S that you have to pass a track inspection
you might scare them into not letting you race

you might scare them into not letting you raceYeah blitz i'm taking all of that in consideration too.By time i'm finished it will look store bought.I'm not to much on looks(except on a woman)But theres no way i'll put something on my bike that's gonna look to ratty.I'm gonna try a dry run if i go with the watercooled setup then if i like it and it works. Then i make it all pretty so they'll say where did you buy that?

I like the way your thinking about building your own cooler but i think you would be better off curving the tubes at each end (180 degree) so the oil will flow through one continuous line,The inlet should be at the bottom so it pushes the oil up and has to fill the cooler eliminating air pockets... I have doubts that the cooler will fill all the tubes, liquid will take the path of least resistance and since these engines don't have a lot of oil pressure I have a feeling the oil will only flow full pressure at the bottom tubes.....Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking your idea just trying to give some insight......

Never thought about it that way 125. I have a cooler that snakes guess that's why.

Yep your right.i thought of that also.I was going to try one of 2 ways.First run the inlet at the bottom. Then using a smaller return line at the top.So the oil should be able to pressurize the cooler that way.The other way would be to switch them around but same scenario. But i think the first way will work.Oh yeah the the oil cooler lines run from the engine block vs running from the head.A lot of pressure from the engine block.I was testing rev up the bike and blew a hose off.Oil spilled all over the place.LOL
