a kill is a kill
its a 'short' that you cause, however
try it

I'm ordering a tach from akunar and they say it works best with a battery source. IRK eliminates that dosn't it?

no,the irk takes away your bikes abilaty to charge the battery..you can always charge it with a trickle charger or a car charger(?) when your not riding the bike.If your not tagging your bike..an irk is a must!

u can remove the key and use a kill switch if u want to, or u can use the key as a kill switch. doesnt matter which. an IRK doesnt eliminate your battery source only your ability to recharge your battery while riding. u could always switch to a different battery type to run your tach and other electronics. and u would have to switch battery types, especially if u ride and use your electronics alot. the bikes stock battery isnt designed to be cycled frequently. u would have to switch to LiPo cells or the much simpler and safer to use NIMH cells to charge and recharge as frequently as needed with a total loss system, like what u would have to use with an IRK. but an IRK is definitely worth the extra work, especially if youve already modded most everything else. it made my modded 140 spin up twice as fast and had more HP and torque, on the top end of the RPMs especially. not to mention the change in throttle response. plus the ability to fine tune the timing. definitely a good mod. even for a stock engine.

i only kept my key as the kill switch because i dont want anyone else to be able to start my bike. besides if u use a kill switch instead of the key u will still have about the same amount of wires around your engine. wires are needed for the kill switch as well and they go to about the same spot on the bike as the wires for the key. i use several zipties to cleanly and securely attach my wires to places around the frame to keep them away from the engine. besides when u use an IRK there arent as many wires to deal with. the stock flywheel/magneto setup has quite a few more wires coming from the engine. i just hardwired and soldered all of my wires on my bike instead of using the wire plug harnesses when i installed my IRK.

ya it was a keychain piece so i took off the rod and put the key piece there, even used the wrist pin, it wiggles but when its in the bike it sits flush and no rattle
my gas cap is a 57mm piston too

let me know how setting your timing goes when u install your IRK and where u placed the IRKs pickup to get the best running and performance and correct timing out of your engine using the IRK. if u could post a pic of your installed IRK with the pickup installed in the correct position that would really help me get the timing set up better on my brothers 125cc engine that has a kitaco clone IRK. thanks again
