140cc lifan with 1down 3 up?

I found a 140cc lifan ..it comes with 24mm mikuni carb,oil cooler,manifold,airfilter,gaskets,clutch and throttle cable..sound good..well here is the bad..its a 1 down 3 up but the seller is saying it has an Updated shift drum (1 down, 3 up) for improved shifting and it fixes the faulse neutral problem and its the newest version(?) ....wtf is he talking about or is he on crack?
its really cheap and new..is it worth it or should I save up more for a all up shift?I dunno

my 15 is 4down, gr8 for racing
my 18 is 1d3u, like a real bike but eh....
does it got a five plate clutch?

ok this is his reply:
We haven't opened one yet, but I assume it is still the same lifan 4 plate clutch.
The date of manufacture is aug 07 and they tell me they fixed the false neutral with the 1 down 3 up. Initial tests show that this seems to be true, but we won't know for sure until we beat on one for a couple more weeks and wear everything in.

Not that this has anything to do with the motor but the guy seems to honest about the motor and that's a decent sign. Nothings a sure thing. Good price...I'd go for it. twocents

I agree but I still think I will ponder over it a day or two and see..I didn`t know..hard to tell with sellers on the net..he has answered all my questions and been very helpful so I think I will go for itthumbsup2

well the gpx has a 5 plate clutch, which is preferable if you are racing
if crusing then its fine with the lifan

yeah this will be just a cruiser for around town..I plan on later buying another x-18 or x-15 to race...that motor will be alot betterthumbsup2

if it has the revised shift drum then the false nuetral problem is basically solved. unless u miss the shift. my friend put on the new shift star or drum in his lifan 125cc 1d 3up and it made a vast improvement. if it was manufactured in Aug 07 it might have the four plate clutch. i am unsure of when lifan switched to the 5 plate clutch, but u can buy an aftermarket five plate clutch for around $60 that fits the Lifan 140cc.

The lifan 140s do not come in 1down3up. They are all 4 up. That is a "138c" engine which in reality is 127cc.

As in, its a poop motor. 2-plate cluch btw.

oh, i thought i saw some lifan 140cc 1d,3up on ebay when i first started to see them on ebay, but that was quite a while ago. they probably were the 138s or actually 127s being pushed off as 140s. i had no idea that the engines stamped with the 138cc only had a 2 plate clutch. that sucks bad. i had an opputinity to pick one up for really cheap with less than 2 hrs on it but i passed for a brand new one. im glad i did that.

Had no idea about that. I thought the 138cc were the real 140cc and ppl were just calling them different things. I'm really glad I didnt buy one!

Well I decided to go with a ogm 140cc with all the goodies from Alex over at OGM,I know a couple guys that bought from this dude and it comes with a 6 month warranty very good price!rock2thumbsup2
