Hey guys I have a stock x-19 with a home modded exhaust and intake. I was wondering what size was the best carb to get I have heard anywhere from 22-26mm MIKUNI carbs? But what size do I get?

yea I am in the process of figuring out how to make the intake better so it doesnt have to make a u turn and all or if its even worth it plan on putting a little scoop in the faring or I might try to run it towards the front I dont know yet tho thumbsup2

Yea I dont know if its worth it. thinking about a custom maifold as well to help move stuff around

Fiind another shorter intake like a TB and port it. And I would prolly go with a 24mm and just jet it down since you will mod it later.

i would get rid of that exhuast somehow if you could make one....make it breath easier with a smooth flowing exhaust and nice air intake.....the more air the more performance, hint why is my name supercharged

rednek01
11-27-2007, 10:12 AM
oh trust me I know all about doin all that I have already modded the exhaust a little bit but I'm not quite done yet. I realize engines are pretty much just air pumps and the more air and fuel you can stuff the more power you make. I also have a turbo diesel so I know all about forced induction and all its magic! cowboy

yea I planned on welding up my own

No matter what carb you put on it you will need to change jets. Jetting is just part of tuning when it comes to carbs. I bought a stock Mikuni VM26 and I had to do a smaller main, a larger Needle jet (with a rich clip setting) and a smaller pilot. It is all about experimenting jetting down jetting up it will all depend on your engine. If you have an electric start that will determine what manifold you will need. I started with a taper bore mikuni carb and modified the stock manifold so I could still use electric start. But if you port your head then you will need a larger manifold which will force you to turn the manifold around backwards which might get in the way of your electic start. A 26mm is not to big and works fine, 22, 24 they all work well and are a significant improvement than the stock carb. If you want that taper bore pm me.

turbo hahaharock2, patriot i like sc's i like power now! but turbo is free power all the time which is better i have to admit

and for the exhuast if your going the whole 10 yards id make a run under the engine for the most free flowing setup

Get that..it comes with filter, gasket and a matching manifold..you gotta get a matching manifold for every size carb you add.

Funny you should ask that. I actually had to cut out a section of my frame to make my airfilter fit. facing forward not a chance with an oversized carb so mine is facing backwards twords the left side of the bike and it comes right thru the frame and it peaks out the back of the fairing. On the X18 stock motor I had to cut off the electric starter mounts to make room. I left my laptop at home so I dont have a pic to post.

i really want to keep the electric start because I dont think the kick start is working. Then again I may be retarded too

I believe that is the taper bore carb that I have. You will need to rejet it and that manifold probably wont work. I believe it is to low and the bottom of the carb will touch the motor. You would need a spacer to increase the height to allow the bottom of the carb to clear the motor. Its a good price thou.

Just mod your stock manifold. The end that goes into the motor wont matter unless you ported the head. As far as the end that bolts to the carb just port the manifold and make a gradual taper to bring it down to the other ends diameter. When I still had my electric start I did that and used a small UFO shaped airfilter that sat behind the triple clamp and it worked great!

with that shorter manifold is it really going to make a difference cause if not im just going to buy a carb not the combo

i would go with the vm26mm carb.
thats what im getting(in the mail)bluelaugh
but it will be good on just about any motor u get..
110,125,140... its a great mod too.
22 i think will be OK but it might be too small.
i dont know much on carbs, but from reading about them,
i would say go with the 26..thumbsup2

get the combo soysauce, do as Bri said..use a taller spacer or get a taller 24mm manifold..holeshotz carries them and so does other places.
Another good thing about that combo(besides it being cheap) I showed you is that it comes with a foam air filter, they are reusable.
When the filter gets dirty simply wash it in some gas..let dry then rub some filter oil(bought at cycle shops) on it and rub it in good.
Then get a dry rag and rub the filter in the rag to soak up the excess oil.
The oil catches the dust and dirt.

You will need to jet it! I have that exact same carb. When you twist the throttle it will bog and die. I shimmed my needle as a quick fix and helped alot and made it pretty ridable but to really get the best performance you will need to rejet.

Holeshots said he did not have jets for that specific carb so I contacted Sudco who is a big supplier of mikuni parts. What you need to do is take a picture of the main jet and email it to them and they can figure out what you need. Check and see what size the main is and buy acouple of sizes going in each dirrection. I would probably get a 105 up to 120 in increments of 5. You will probably need a new needle jet and go one sive richer cause the stock one seems to be a bit lean based on plug readings and clip settings. The guy I talked to there is John and he is really helpfull. If you plan on doing alot of upgrades and mods you might consider getting the mikuni tuning guide it is really helpfull.
