When you get your bike take the MSO to your DMV or town office tell them you wish to tag it.OR if you want to know if you can BEFORE YOU GET A X-18 OR WHATEVER..... print some info for your bike off the internet.
When they run the vin it comes up as a scooter/mini bike. don`t tell them more than they ask.I took some pics and sutch info I copied off the enternet(LINKS BELOW).WHAT i DID was I put white out(the tape kind not the liquid crap..you have to re-copy the pages alot more ) on the words pocket bike where ever I could find those 2 words. re copied those pages till there was no hint of them left on the pages. Then took them to my town office and showed them pics of the bike, pics of the vin and the size, engine displacement etc. She took those papers, faxed them to where ever and they said sure we will tag it as a small motor bike.
Then I called my insurance, told them I wanted a quote for a scooter, they ran the vin I gave them(called topfueltoyscanada and asked for a vin off one of thier bikes) and it came back as a scooter slash minibike and I told them it was a 110cc motor like you should and they said no problem.
If you plan on getting a bigger CC motor..wait till you tag..for 2 reasons
The MSO you get with the bike has the VIN on the frame of the bike AND the vin off the motor it will cause less confusion and stress if you leave the 110cc on it ..even more so if you have to get the bike inspected.Which comes to my second reason..if the numbers don`t match, you got to explain why and you are trying to tag it as a 110cc..not a 125cc or highier,so leave the stock motor on till AFTER you get it tagged it You will have to add a tag bracket and mirrors to it also.

Here are 2 good links to print off pics and specs on the bike to copy off to take to your DMV and insurance office...remember to put white out on anywere you see the words "POCKET BIKE"white them out then photo copy those whited out pages.. the final re-printed pages will look like the words didn`t even exist!!!

There are specs for the other mids on the second link if a x-18 is not your 'flava'

********note******

ONLY PRINT OFF PICS AND SPECS!!!! not the rest of the crap.

some states the minimun requirement is that you have LIABILITY and that at the most should only be around $100 a YEAR!

Here in Phoenix where insurance is REALLY HIGH, I believe I was quoted approx. $200/yr

I'll have to register mine as a custom build though because it never came with papers, just a bill of sale as it was bought at a local auction.
I'll have to go through the whole inspection process which will probably be a real pain, that is, if I can even get this allowed to be tagged.
Whatever anyone does to register your bike......make sure you talk with an insurance agent FIRST, then make sure you cross your T's and dot your I's for your registration.
Good luck!

well if it needs inspected your DECIBALS will probobly be over the limit and plus your 140 probobly isnt EPA/CARB approved meaning your engine is too dirty for the envirnment

if you have the stock motor stick it on there and put it back on...if you dont then you might be SOL but you might not be you never know. Try and get it registered and you may not have to get it inspected....

In Ga if it's listed as a scooter/moped up to 125cc I think you only need a learner's permit. You didn't have to have insurance but the insurance companies got wind of that anda ended it. Now only mopeds can run without insurance but most cops look at them all the same. The dumb ones insist on writing mopeds tickets for no insurance and the ones who have better things to do leave them all alone thumbsup2

I posted this on another thread but the info is good. X-18, X-19, or the very rare X-17 are tagable. I have done the research on the motorcycle laws and equipment requirements. Here they go: Have to have to have the following Headlight (low/highbeam), taillight and brakelight, mirrors, horn, turnsignals (some states require them 18 inches apart), brakes of course, permanent seat at 15 inches from the handle bars, tag bracket, tag lights, some states require reflectors on the side and rear (check your state laws), There is no height requirements except "The front headlight must the minimum height of 24 inches from the pavement and no higher than 54 inches off the pavement.

P.S. The highbeams can be installed.

I am not positive but I think a member had registered their x18 here in Phoenix and said they also insured it through Geico for under $50 for the whole year.
It was posted months back but I remember he posted all the info here because he was selling the midbike.

midbikes are registered as moped in NYS and require a basic drivers license to operate.

the back of my MSO is completely empty, the only thing thats on it is a sticker that states the VIN. should i fill out the rest of the information before i take it to the DMV?

What company did you buy it from. if it looks like this, do not take it to the DMV they will laugh at you. The one you really need actually looks like a vehicle title to a car. You will have to contact the company you bought it from to get them to send you the good copy. The reason they do this is for security reasons. But call them and tell them you need the Original MSO and Bill of sale (not the one you print off the computer). With insurance and those two documents I listed, thats all you need.

Here is the POS MSO I am talking about. I did on a typewriter.
